065 How to Tap Your Creative Side

http://traffic.libsyn.com/bolderbusinesswomen/065_Aprille_Janes_Podcast.mp3Podcast: Play in new window | DownloadThe focus in this episode is still on creativity in business because it’s just that important to our success. It’s not only the domain of artists, writers, and the performing arts. It belongs to all of us – and especially to small business people. Today I share a tool I use all the time for my business and in my personal pursuits. It allows me to tap into the creative side of my brain and turns my curious questions into valuable business assets. You can, too. Tips Work with your thought process rather than fighting it. Your creative brain loves images. Feed it. Judgment and Innovation don’t even belong in the same sentence. Don’t bring the Editor in too early in your process. 063 The Right Question

http://traffic.libsyn.com/bolderbusinesswomen/063_Aprille_Janes_Podcast.mp3Podcast: Play in new window | DownloadInstead of asking “HOW” all the time, we need to take a step back and take a lesson from children. The real question is never “HOW”. It’s “WHY” or “WHY NOT” or (my favourite) “WHAT IF”.  Because we all know that if we really want to do something we’ll figure out the HOW later. Curiosity is a trait we need to value more and nurture if we are to be successful in business. Curiosity is the heart of innovation and growth. Innovation creates value and awareness of our brand. And that’s BOLD! 3 Tips Wait before you ask “How”.  Make your first question Why, Why not or What if? Take a look at your business activities this week and ask yourself WHY am I doing this? If you can’t give a compelling answer either find one or stop doing it! Watch a child play and they’ll teach you about curiosity, the most valuable asset you can bring to your business. Book The Power of Why Quote It’s through curiosity and looking at opportunities in new ways that we’ve always mapped our path at Dell.
